Brooks Koepka tried his best to interrupt the series, during which over the past 114 years no one managed to win the the US Open major for three years in a row, but last year’s champion was unable to catch up with Gary Woodland, who won his first major and earned 2.25 million dollars. Still, Brooks inscribed his name in the history of the American Open, becoming the first golfer to spend less than 70 shots on each of the four rounds, but did not win the title.

At the final hole, Woodland needed to roll the ball at least in three putts, but instead the American made a birdie and won with a three hits advantage over Koepka. Gary finished the match with a score of 271 (-13), improving the record of Tiger Woods, set on the local stage almost two decades ago. Woods himself in the current draw made four birdies at once at the six final holes, but this time the legendary golfer didn’t even claim the right to compete for the main trophy.

During the final round of the US Open, only Justin Rose was briefly able to catch up with Woodland, but it happened on the first hole, after which the Englishman immediately earned bogey. The ending of the tournament Rose clearly failed, giving the worst score of the day among the final top 30 representatives, and finished the contest only on the third line. Here, with the result of 277 (-7), finished Jon Rahm, Chez Reavie and Xander Schauffele. The latter passed the final eighteen holes four hits better than a par.

Four minuses in the final round were collected by Norwegian Viktor Hovland, who completed the US Open major with a score of 280 (-4), which is an absolute record for amateurs in the long history of this contest. Let us remember that last year Hovland won the American open among amateurs, and in April also became the strongest of the amateurs at Masters major.
