Brooks Koepka and Brooke Henderson were awarded the prestigious ESPY Award (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award), which is granted annually to athletes with outstanding achievements. This award has existed for a quarter of a century, and initially its nominees were chosen by public, but in the past decade and a half this responsibility has been placed on media representatives and sports figures.
Koepka was recognized as the best of golfers, and in this nomination he outperformed not only Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari, but also Tiger Woods himself. Remember that this year Brooks successfully defended the title at the PGA Championship major, and at the other two majors finished second. Brooks is also approaching the oncoming British Open in the status of one of the top favorites. Koepka was also nominated for the best athlete of the year title, but basketball player Yannis Adetokunmpo eventually got it.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Henderson has already won not less than two titles in the LPGA for four seasons in a row. She won her most “fresh” victory at the June Meijer LPGA Classic tournament, and now Brooke is officially the most successful golfer in Canadian history. Along with Henderson, Sung Hyun Park, Ariya Jutanugarn and Jin-Young Ko also claimed the title of best golfer of the year.
